FITNESS
In addition to clarifying the definition of Health Related Fitness, this article intends to shed some light over a few of the associated terms, also to show their respective distinctions.

Can it be simply all in the name?

The fitness world usually use the concept Medical related Fitness like a generic fitness principle – interchangeable with others like “Physical Fitness”, “Health and Fitness” or just “Fitness.”

While most of these terms can be included underneath the broad term Health insurance Physical Fitness, they individually reference different aspects – both generic and particular. Unfortunately, references to the telltale and other fitness-related terms tend to be vague, while consistency of their intended use is meager at the best; there is a kind of “generally accepted” use for them, but individuals often count on own interpretation, this also can lead to confusion.

That being said, does Health Related Fitness simply infer fitness by way of good health? Not quite. That is why we need to understand a bit more behind these words before digesting madness.

How did the term Health Related Physical Fitness happen?

That is a good question. You are able to probably ask what’s this concept all about – are we able to not simply use the terms “Fitness” or “Physical Fitness” instead?” Why Health “Related”?

The primary reason stems from the fact that most health and fitness terms are used inconsistently and frequently refer to different concepts or notions. After the 1996 report from the US Surgeon General (Exercise and Health; a study of the Surgeon General), there was a move to try and address the alarming boost in obesity levels one of the general American public. Studies and initiatives required standardization among clinicians, nurses and patients and fitness trainers to grapple together with the task at hand. Enter “Health Related Physical Fitness”, a functional term to address the state of health among the public.

The meaning of Health Related Fitness

In line with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the primary authority in this field, ineffective definitions with unclear and subjective wordings, as well as definitions containing terms which themselves require defining, have contributed to confusing the term “Physical Fitness.”

There is no reliable guide for Physical fitness and health Professionals to measure “Physical Fitness”, for the reason that term has been so loosely and inconsistently defined. Therefore, it is that one should consider the idea of Health Related Fitness. The meaning therefore centers on the 5 Components of Physical Fitness which connect with “good health.” These elements are:

Cardiorespiratory Fitness
Body Composition
Flexibility
Muscular Strength
Muscular Endurance

On the other hand, Skill Related Fitness Components are:

Balance
Reaction Time
Coordination
Agility
Speed
Power

In line with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the meaning of Physical Fitness emphasizes the main difference between Health Related Fitness and health and Athletic Ability Physical Fitness. Its point-of-departure is the “health” of the usa nation, which is often called the “public health perspective.” In that respect, the 5 Health Related Fitness Components are more important than those linked to Athletic Ability (or Skill Related Components).

Even though the concept of Health Related Fitness posseses an integral association with “good health”, the five Components are addressed individually by health professionals to allow for their measurement.

Now that we have a deeper understanding of the term, what purpose does it serve?

Continuing in which the definition left off, the goal of measuring the 5 Components is always to advise clients regarding own particular Health-related Fitness, and to use data obtained from the tests to style appropriate exercise programs which can then be evaluated.

The five Components contribute evenly to generate up a holistic Health-related Fitness, which is of direct interest on the health of the ordinary citizen, in that the concept is normative. To put it differently, it is a standard which allows for consistent application.

It is therefore important for those working in the medical and fitness industry not to mistake “overall physical fitness” with “Health Related Fitness and health.”

To conclude, let’s consider this distinction between Fitness and health and Health Related Fitness

One should bear in mind that regular physical exercise can improve overall Physical Fitness, as well as Health Related Fitness. However, overall fitness is really a generic term and it is up to subjective interpretation, while Medical Fitness can be assessed.

The difference therefore, between these terms, exists in that Health Related Physical Fitness may be measured according to some established comparative norms.

This is when the “rubber hits the road.” The guidelines put down by the ACSM enable physicians to work with clients to gauge and measure their reaction to exercise and prescribe appropriate exercise programs. A client’s progress can then be monitored and adjusted where necessary to be able to obtain the desired workout goals.
